Q: What is the interior length of a toyota matrix with the back seats down?
I need to transport a treadmill that folds down to a 12 inch height. It's 5 ft 3 inches in length. Would it fit in a 4 Door Matrix Wagon? I'm considering selecting that model from Zipcar.

A: Yes it will fit.. Allot of people also do not realize that not only can you put the back seats down flat but the from Passenger seat folds forward also! I bought a latter a few months ago and I layed the rear passenger seat and the front passenger down and put it right in perfect fit.. I hope this helps

Q: Is the clutch going out in my 2004 Toyota Matrix XRS?
When I shift up and accelerate, my 2004 Toyota Matrix XRS revs higher than normal with much acceleration. Then, the RPM's fall back down to the normal level and regular acceleration continues. It basically feels like I have lost some power.

A: The clutch on the first generation matrix XRS is notoriously weak... particularly the 03 and 04 models. Basically, they gave us the same clutch as the celica GT-S, but forgot that they gave us taller wheels and more weight. sounds like yours is getting slow to engage, so it's probably slipping a bit. I'd recommend changing it soon, but don't go with another OEM clutch. Check out http://www.matrixowners.com for recommendations on what aftermarket clutch to get.

Q: What would you buy a Toyota Matrix or a Prius?
I'm between the Matrix, Prius and the Fit (but I can't talk myself into paying over MSRP for a car). I have test driven all three. I do need some room to put stuff in but with the price of gas rising up I'm thinking the Prius might be a good bet. What's your experience? Thanks for the input

A: I have a Prius, and it's without a doubt the BEST bet. I can easily put a month's worth of shopping in the back end (with the seats down), and I went from gassing up twice a week (at $30 a pop to gassing up twice a MONTH - and my driving habits are unchanged. Go with the Prius. You'll thank yourself later! ;)

Q: Is a Toyota Matrix Type S is faster than a BMW 328 xi?
Because I'm trying to prove my friend that a Toyota Matrix Type S is not faster than a BMW 328 xi.

A: any thing named toyota is a stove bmw is a car a real car so its stove against car

Q: What's the difference between honda fit & toyota matrix?
Aside from the obvious. I know that they are made by different companies, but they seem to linger in the same price range & have the same general body type. Does anyone out there have some important information as to what features are most desirable & what is the best buy? Also, those packages get so confusing. Thanks!

A: They're actually not intended to be direct competitors. The Fit is Honda's newest entry-level compact car, created after the Civic progressively got larger and was no longer a simple small car. It has tiny wheels, a tiny fuel-efficient engine, and a tall greenhouse (passenger cabin). It's practicality is a marketing tool for 20-30 yr-old females. It's closest competitor would actually be a Nissan Versa. The Toyota Matrix is larger, closer in size to the Corolla, and is intended to be a crossover SUV. It's sleeker, comes in all-wheel-drive, and has a zippy 180+hp engine available on the higher-end model. It's not intended to be as practical or fuel efficient, and it's marketed to 20-30 yr old males.

Q: What would cause a 2007 Toyota Matrix to die while driving?
Like I said it's a 2007, and it just happened yesterday, but in the middle of an intersection. It started back up in a minute or two. I have been told it could be something such as a Fuel Pump or Fuel Filter. Any ideas?

A: Hey, I just found this article online today, hopefully it'll help you find your answer http://www.leftlanenews.com/toyota-researching-fix-for-1-2-million-corolla-and-matrix-models.html#comments

Q: Where is the engine airbox located on a 2007 Toyota matrix?
I want to change the engine airfilter, but the owner's manual doesn't have a clear breakdown of the area under the hood. Where is the engine airbox located exactly? Thanks!

A: Right side (driver's side) of the engine compartment, behind the battery box. It's the box with the black flex pipe that runs to it.

Q: What should I expect to pay for a front axle brake job on a 2006 Toyota Matrix?
I've had my car for 3 years and it has 40K miles on it. It's about 50/50 city and highway driving. I expect to have to have the rotors turned as well as the brakes replaced. I've had quotes from the chain stores around 150 to 200, with a local place quoting 70. The local dealer quotes 100 excluding rotor resurfacing.

A: your toyota is pretty new i wouldn't think that you would need to replace the brake pads already. well if so,then brake jobs on your matrix is very easy. so take it to any small shop you can fine;cost may be around $80 for LABOR,but buy the brake pads your self;since sometimes shops used OLD or recall pads that may not be fine on your vehicle. i recommend buying the pads from toyota, since its the OEM spec. would work BEST. yes the rotors needs to be turn;if the small shop don't do it take the rotors to kragen cost about $15 EACH.

Q: How is the 2003 Toyota Matrix?
I am looking at an '03 Toyota Matrix. It is $2,200. 120,000 miles. It was used for commercial use and has some minor scratches on the interior. I know Toyota's are reliable cars and they do last long. I need this for atleast the next two years for my junior and senior years of high school and am looking to bring it with me to college. What do you think?

A: The price is a bit on the low side which is reflected in the high mileage. For $2,000 it would be a good deal anyway as these are a pretty reliable car. I have rented the Matrix and the only thing I did not like is that when making a U turn, you will find it has a wide turning circle. But at that price for a 2003, you are doing OK. Toyota generally go 200,000 miles OK. But when they do break, they are expensive to fix.

Q: What's the most inexpensive way to install an auxiliary jack to my radio (Toyota Matrix 2008)?
I don't want to buy a new head unit or drill holes (rather go with the first option if I have to)/ Is it easy to get into the back of the factory stereo?

A: I don't know if it's easy to get to the back of the stereo, but I know that generally the Honda/Toyota is easier to get to as far as head units are concerned. The best way I can think of is to get a factory wiring harness with aux input. It would be a plug that goes into the back of the head unit that you would be able to run a cable wherever you wanted to for auxilliary sources.

Q: Is it worth customizing my 2005 Toyota Matrix?
I want to turn my car into my next art project. I was pricing out everything I want to do and it dawned on me I have a pretty high mileage car (nearly 70,000 miles). The car still runs beautifully and I keep up with regular maintenance (for the most part [>_<] ) Considering it's age in ratio to it's mileage, is it worth sinking time and money into this project or should I save this for the next one?

A: Change the oil and coolant once and a while and I am sure it will go for 200,000 miles. Have fun!!!

Q: My 2005 Toyota Matrix's air conditioner cycles from cold to warm and then back cool. Any ideas why?
The air conditioner was cooling but it wasn't getting cold. So, I bought an after-market air conditioner charging kit. Immediately after I charged it, the air was extremely cold. The next day, however, the air would not get cold. It was fluctuating from cool to warm and then back cool again. Any ideas why or how to fix it? I would rather not have to take it to an auto shop.

A: I have some (probably) bad news. My wife also has a 2005 Toyota Matrix and in fact I just got off the phone with the tech at the Toyota dealership. We've complained about the A/C being "cool" but NEVER cold from day one (we bought the car brand new, it NEVER has been cold). Each summer we go back to the dealership, the plug in the hoses/gauges, etc, and say "everything looks fine"... but still, when you drive it on a hot day, the air coming out of the vents is never, ever cold. Cool, yes. Cold, no. The shop foreman at the local Toyota place here said he drove 2 other 2005 and 2006 Matrixes and they were exactly the same and were "working as designed." That's right. It's a bad design. Imagine that, Toyota, a Japanese company, made a badly designed product! I'm sorry to say, that's the exact problem. Ironically, the "twin" of the Matrix -- the Pontiac Vibe (built on the same assembly line, identicle cars mechanically -- uses a GM A/C compressor and it gets ICE COLD! I know this, because we had one as a rental car while the Matrix was in for body repairs last year (fender bender). So, basically, the problem is... it's a Toyota. They have mediocre air conditioning systems. GM cars have frigid, ice-cold air conditioning systems (such as the ICE COLD a/c in my 2004 Chevrolet Colorado). Toyota? No. I was recommended by the dealer shop foreman to call the Toyota customer service number listed in the owner's manual and complain about this problem and ask them to resolve it. If nobody ever calls to complain that it is a problem, it will never be fixed. End of story. Call and complain to Toyota! I'm calling today! If Toyota can't resolve this by redesigning something and sending a new part to be installed, I will NOT be buying a Toyota next time. The perceived "reliability" of Toyota as compared to reality is vastly different. Ask the thousands of Toyota owners with sludge-filled engines that had to be rebuilt under recall or those with grossly defective drum brakes on Toyota Sienna vans, etc. All manufacturers have their issues, and apparently Toyota's issue is they don't know how to make an air conditioning system. On the other hand, this is an area where GM and Ford do very well. In Texas, I'm more concerned about a COLD A/C than I am about some bogus Consumer Reports biased magazine report.

Q: do you think the toyota Matrix is a ugly vehicle?
my parents might give me there's it's a 06 less than 30,000 miles but i dont know if i want it, beucase of the way it looks....am i just being silly?

A: I guess so! That's an awesome deal! Is it free?! TAKE IT! Toyota's are EXTREMLY reliable vehicles. I have had Toyota's for the past 10 years and I have not had one problem with either. I mean, of course there is some wear and tear, but nothing like extreme. The Matrix is an attractive car, and not to mention its gas efficent and 4 wheel drive. Do not hesistate!

Q: Mazda3 Sport/Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix Which is the best car to invest in?
I live in the maritimes so I'd like a car that's good in snow. I will be travelling a lot on steep hills in the winter. I would prefer an AWD or 4WD. I know the Matrix and Vibe are AWD. I know too from people I know who own Mazda3's that find them great in snow as well. Which car would you recommend based on price, reliability, mileage, etc? Thanks

A: Since Pontiac will cease to exist after 2010 models, you may get the best deal on the Vibe. Load it with options, and you should still keep the price below the other 2. Best investment for resale, if you keep it 5 years, will be the matrix. toyota will hold its value longer than the others. I believe traction control is available on all models. Test drive them all, and you should be able to decide. I've driven the matrix and the vibe, and the vibe felt better in the seat around town. Maybe someone can help more with the Mazda3.

Q: How much money does a white Toyota Matrix S car cost?

A: If you're talking about the new 2009 model, it will be around $20,000 or if you can find a good deal, maybe a little bit cheaper.
